This is a view of the rear of 214-216 (previously 346) High Street seen from Minster Gardens on a bright winter day. The High Street frontage shows a typically plain Regency shop building with an attractively curved corner to the passage which leads into the churchyard. The style of the rear windows and the pitched roof suggest a Victorian extension.
For many years, 214-216 High Street housed Waghorne’s butchers. Here are views of the business in 1924 and 1961. Of course, Waghorne’s is still trading in Prestbury.

The Minster has always been well hidden at the heart of the town and I have encountered residents who do not know where it is. Are there other town churches that are so well tucked away?
