New Year update for our members

Posted on January 24, 2024
Around 40 members of Cheltenham Civic Society gathered at the New Club.

Cheltenham Civic Society members arrived at the New Club on the morning of Saturday 20th January to find out the latest news on Parmoor, the Society’s new building in Cambray that we are trying to restore.

That news was of planning delays causing a six-month set-back to the start of building work. With the most recent delays being caused by Cheltenham Borough Council’s apparent inability to issue an invoice for the payment of an environmental impact charge, members were somewhat taken aback. Support for the Trustees’ continuing attempts to resolve the issue was strongly expressed and several members offered their practical help in trying to persuade the Council to actually issue the planning consent that they had notified us about on 1st November.

The Trustees also updated members on the Society’s recent activities – including our objection to the Lansdown Industrial Estate housing scheme, setting out our views on the Black & White site and publicising our ideas for the future of Cavendish House.
