Events

Events, meetings and activities

Once we finish the refurbishment of Parmoor, our town centre building in Cambray Place, we will be able to return to organising a full calendar of interesting events for our members. Our premises will provide the Society with meeting space capable of seating up to 100 people or hold meetings, events and exhibitions.

Unfortunately the building work has been delayed for almost a year due to structural issues with a neighbouring building. But our builders are now back on site and we will bring you news of their progress over the coming months.

In the meantime, our main events programme is our organisation of the Heritage Open Days festival each September – see more about that on our Heritage Open Days page.

For occasional  Society meetings and get togethers we generally use the New Club as our venue. Members will receive emails informing them of upcoming events.

This example of an event we organised is a site visit to see the restoration of this property in Lansdown Place.

Many members came to our open house event at Parmoor in August – where they explored our new home, enjoyed a glass of wine, and listened to a general update from our Chair, Andrew Booton.

In early May, members gathered in Lansdown Crescent Green for a guided walk led by CBC's senior trees officer, Chris Chavasse.

Chris Chavasse explains how this fungus slowly eats away the inside of its host oak. We learnt that removing the external fruiting elements visible in this shot makes no difference to the progress of the fungus inside the trunk.
