4 years of inaction – enough is enough!

Posted on August 13, 2022

The Civic Society has been on the streets of Cheltenham to draw attention to the four years of inaction on a local eyesore.

The former Sports Direct store in Cheltenham’s Strand has now lain empty and unloved since the summer of 2018. The owner – Dorabelle Properties Ltd – has allowed the building to degrade and it has now blighted this end of the town’s High Street for four years. During that time, Cheltenham Borough Council has dragged its heels in taking enforcement action.

Despite an ongoing campaign by the Civic Society to get it cleaned up, this building has become a blot on the landscape in the town’s central conservation area. Its hideous frontage is bringing the whole town centre into disrepute.
